Berlin, Entry 34: Apple tree at Scherer8
7 October 2008 by lkuo
Scherer8 is a fairly new communal house project in Wedding, an untrendy, largely immigrant neighborhood of Berlin directly to the north of the trendy center district of Mitte. The house is on a corner, meaning it is shaped like a wide V and has a large courtyard. The courtyard is lively, messy and full – of bikes parked in rows, wooden structures, strings of colored lightbulbs, and house members hanging out, working on projects or going between the different entryways to the bar, the communal kitchen and the apartments. Since the ground has long been paved over with cement, the many plants have to be satisfied with life in pots. That hasn’t stopped this brave little apple tree from setting fruit.
