A prickly little hand-painted cactus, its spines sticking out like sparkles, graces a V3 Volkswagen van often parked near my studio. Shiny and apple green, clearly maintained with love, the van makes me want to go a-wandering down country roads on a slow, meandering road trip. This small urban plant on the passenger-side door, hinting at desert driving adventures, just makes it all the more evocative.

This intrepid plant caught my eye with its bright green color as I was walking down Adalbertstraße in Kreuzberg the other day, not far from the petting zoo. Isn’t it amazing how it totally defies the gray-and-black palette of its stony and metallic surroundings with its radiant color?

This is a small hotel I always enjoy walking past. To think of a hotel owner taking the time to cultivate such bodacious balconies makes me happy.
