cement donut with plants

Today I just have one modest little plants-on-the-ground photo from me, a mini-post before I take leave of the urban plants to spend the weekend in the woods with the big trees, mushrooms, frogs, fishes and foxes. I spotted this cement donut yesterday at the subway construction site in front of my house, which has been a very tumultuous habitat for those brave plants who have dared to grow there during the past two years.

Plant leaves poking through expanse of asphalt

As Marko and I were passing by the big construction site in front of the Bethanien (an old brick hospital, once site of squatters’ movement, now home to arts organizations), he pointed and said, “There’s something for Urban Plant Research.” In a strip of newly laid asphalt, there had already been some kind of small-scale upheaval. It looked like the blacktop had been broken from underneath by some very determined plant!
