Is this street empty of trees or full of them? Depends on how you count ’em.
On my recent trip to Sweden, a couple days after visiting the Lund Botanical Garden, I spent a day walking around gray, slushy Malmö. The harbor town has large parks and lovely open spaces by the water, but in the dead of winter it seemed anything but green. So I enjoyed the cheery row of trees in this red-brick streetscape.
In the city, sometimes portrayals of nature have to do the job of actual nature in enlivening our surroundings and cheering our spirits. In fact, there is a new blog in Berlin documenting this very phenomenon, only focusing on animals: How We Look at Them. Highly recommended!
