Hello, urban plant detectives! We are coming out of our long hiatus to pass along an intriguting Call for Artists that we received from Laura Raber of the annual MS Dockville summer festival, which is held on an urban island in Hamburg.
Now in its fifth year, the festival will cover two months of events, plus an ARTCAMP, an open-air / open process exhibition. ARTCAMP is seeking proposals from artists of all disciplines, emerging and established.
Here’s the call:
FLUFF. A FESTIVAL SPACE. — FLAUM. Ein Festivalraum .
Green meadows, sand hills, levee – amidst industrial storehouses and docks on the Elbe River Island Wilhelmsburg, an area overgrown by an abundance of wild vegetation features space where magic is bound to happen; namely the MS DOCKVILLE SUMMER.
Characterized by temporarily installed infrastructure, the encounter of greatly diverse people on the charismatic terrain as well as the intense dealing with music and art works, over several weeks an islet of outstanding social inter-/action is developed. This space – and thus the entire MS DOCKVILLE – is subject to planned urban transformations and hence substantially impacted; forests are being redesignated to dunes, empty warehouses are turning into embankments, there are efforts to replace multiple decade-old trees with ever more advanced port facilities.
This year we would like to address the task of artistically dealing with both the spatial and social properties of the festival as well as coping with the premises of limited space undergoing change on a yearly basis. In doing so, we would like to focus on the potential of the in situ developing social space as well as the various types of production of space and at the same time address the specific festival-related agility and mobility.
The call for artistic proposals of all disciplines is currently open. Please send the project proposal including a detailed calculation by March 15, 2011.
