The weather has been very mercurial lately, swinging from warm summery days for short sleeves to gusty days like today when I go back inside to get my sweater. The weather is whipping the trees around too and I bet some of them would be happy to have sweaters too, like these trees I saw in Brooklyn back in January.
The trees were growing near the West corner of Prospect Park and their sweaters were clearly custom-made for them.
Not only were the dimensions tailored to the trees’ height and girth, but the edges were carefully finished with ribbing and an appopriate number of buttons and buttonholes were worked into the garments.
It is touching when trees find a friend. How have you shown your love to plants lately, whether plants you know or stranger-plants on the street?
Great signs of stewardship!
Uh h. What if someone picks up on that and starts making hats for trees?
I think it would look nice though…
What a great site/sight! I just found the tree of heaven post while looking for specimens of Ailanthus altissima in Brooklyn (hope you can contribute to http://treeteachers.wordpress.com/) Now see the remarkable trees in sweaters like upright dachshunds!
