I have become interested in the weeds growing all over my neighborhood. They’re everywhere, growing out of every untended plot of dirt and each crevice in the pavement. Perhaps they are so abundant because of all the rain we’ve gotten this summer – in many places they grow to the height of me! I am interested in their life cycles, their beauty, ugliness and utterly odd-lookingness. I am interested in the settings in which they make their home. There are several rogue gardens in which I have taken particular interest. On walks through the neighborhood, I have come to anticipate meeting with them if I am heading their way, and become excited to see how they’ve changed.
I’ve done a bit of research in an attempt to identify the weeds I’ve grown fond of. I believe this one is Virginia Pepperweed (or at least something similar to it).
And here is a bunch of young Marestails.
