Window at Ostbahnhof, Erich-Steinfurth-Straße 1, Friedrichshain, Berlin
I had already noticed this strange sight before this walk – leaves and branches pressed up to the glass, backed by shabby but taut, flattening paper. I always look at plants set in windows – empty store windows where rubber trees and potted palms sit in poor company (among bedpans or ugly office art). Sometimes the plants are fake. But these are more than imprisoned, and more than fake, they are in scraps and pressed flat against the glass in spots. I need to go back and look more carefully.
